There was a time when excessively large packets could crash systems. That bug has long ago been fixed. The only people who have to worry about it are those who haven&#039;t updated their operating systems since 1998.</description>

Pipe classification that you see in the recent pings is the Simplex one directional communication channel creation. 

The meaning of pipe 2 in ping is: that the pipe is created (before) and not in use, create the file descriptors and assign to the read write vars. 
The meaning of pipe 3 in ping is: create a pipe and then do what pipe 2 does.

In some cases( some OS ): Pipe 2 and pipe 3 are the same. Pipe 2 is a system call, and pipe 3 is one of the library function calls. In the OS where no library call is available, a system call is made.
